late for a very important date!

Hiya gnomers, I'm so so sorry this wasn't done to our promised deadline - getting swept up in a lot of other movements. But here goes nothing:
Time Bandits (1981 - Gilliam);
It felt like a children's movie, honestly, however delivered well with an incredible plot. A group of "God's" helpers go through time, with a stolen map full of time loopholes, looting - and a young boy happens on them and joins in the adventure. It had it's brilliant moments, and was deeply Python influenced but there was just something lacking; something slightly off the mark comically..
It seemed to drag on at certain times. As far as children films go, I think it was marvelous - but not nearly as adult, or humorous as I had expected. Maybe the problem was that I had expectations to begin with!

I'm going to post my fortress of terror on thursday, it will be a good project for me and cyrus since I'll be in Asheville at that time - And I promised Satya to do some baking. Photographs to come!
Any ideas on the next movie we should watch?

I love you, girl.

Hello, all. This Monday I was spontaneously invited to go to Concordia (Argentina) on Tuesday at 5am. I had to. But I hadn't watched the movie Time Bandits yet, only parts. And I had homework due and needed to pack. So first I did my homework because there's a deadline, which no apology of this kind will excuse. And then I packed cause it was already late. And then I realized, Oh crap! No time to do the blog; I just had to get going. So after only 3 hrs of sleep, I got up at 5am, and went with my boyfriend and his aunt to where she lives in Concordia. That's where I am now. It's bigger than Concepcion del Uruguay, but not too much bigger. The thermal springs are sweet as hell though.

But anyways, what I'm going to do is post a movie review on a movie I saw on TV here, even though it has nothing to do with Time Bandits or Terry Gilliam or anything. And I'm going to write about a cake I made last Friday, and when I'm back in CdelU, I will give you the recipe. It's a baller-ass cake.

Movie Review:
Out of Sight (1998)

It's a movie about a notorious bank robber and a federal marshall who fall in love. They meet while the bank robber (George Clooney) is escaping from jail. Later, the marshall (Jennifer Lopez) is following him because she's on his case, but she secretly wants to do him. She does, and later... well, I won't spoil the movie. Not that I think anyone is going to go out of their way to see a Jennifer Lopez movie. But surprisingly I didn't hate it. Maybe because I'm in another country, and you have to take what you can get on TV in English. Or maybe because Lopez wasn't playing something stupid like a wedding planner. Plus, I secretly love girly crap (or not-so secretly) so it was good for my mood that day, and I didn't have to feel too bad about watching it around my boyfriend 'cause there was killin' and robbin' and shite.

So yeah, I know this isn't a Time Bandits review, but I'll make that up as soon as I have a good net connection. Until then, this will have to do! Sorry, dre!

Cake baking:
Apple Tart recipe from South Africa

I made this apple tart with my boyfriend's mom. It was her personal recipe from back when she lived in South Africa. It was really easy to make and didn't use a lot of ingredients, which is my kind of cake. I hate when recipes have 30 ingredients, and you have to go shopping and end up spending like 50 bucks just to make a cake. This recipe uses things anyone should have in their kitchen - eggs, flour, sugar, stuff like that.

From what I remember: we and peeled cut up one and a half green apples and put them on a plate with water just barely covering them. We heated them up in the microwave until they were almost completely soft. Then, we mixed together the ingredients, which were like eggs, sugar, milk, I don't remember completely. After, we put that with sifted flour. We poured it in a pan and placed the apples on top. It looked really flat, like there wouldn't be a lot of cake, but it rises so don't worry. Then, we baked it at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. While baking the tart, we mixed sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla (because we didn't have caramel sauce) and cooked it until it was thick. When the cake was done, we poured the topping on while still hot. Let it cool or just dig in! The cake is sooo yummy! Make it every day, and serve it with vanilla icecream.

I hope that satisfies you all for now. I will post the recipe Friday, when I am back in CdelU. Sorry about the image of the half-eaten cake. We got too excited, and I forgot to take a picture right away. We plan to bake it again with pears on top soon. I'll retake then. GET READY FOR FORT WARS, BITCHES! xo

This, the second, week.

So far so good with the blog, I think. Our first week was really fun. We discussed the movie Brazil and took pictures to the theme "things that make me smile." We're thinking about making Monday permanently movie day. It's easy and fun, and there are plenty of good movies out there to see. We're open to suggestions for movies. This Monday we're watching Time Bandits, another Terry Gilliam movie. Great trailer, which is posted below. Link to full movie (on YouTube) above.

On Wednesday, we will be baking pies. Actually, I'm not sure if it's pies. It might just be sweets in general. (Dre, please clarify!) We will post the recipe and pictures. Yum!

And last but not least:
Friday is - are you ready? - FORT WARS! We're going to see who can build the ultimate fort. The fort should have size, comfort, amenities, dazzzzle! and whatever else you can think of! Join in on this one for sure. We want to see what you're made of!
